Women Making History Eighth-Grade Essay Contest

Eighth-grade teachers can commemorate Women's History Month in March by encouraging their students to enter the 2010 Women Making History Essay Contest by the April 23 deadline.

Live, Online Professional Development Seminars for History and Literature Teachers

The National Humanities Center, located in North Carolina's Research Triangle Park, is the country's only independent institute for advanced study in all branches of the humanities. Among many upcoming professional development seminars, the Center is offering high school history and literature teachers programs

$10,000 History Teacher of the Year Award

The Preserve America History Teacher of the Year Award presents $10,000 to the best history teacher in America. The national winner is chosen from outstanding history teachers in each state, district and U.S. territory.

Constitutional Academy 2010

High school students who will be juniors or seniors next year may apply to the Constitutional Academy, which will focus on works written by and about the leading minds of the American Founding era. Application deadline: Feb. 15

Ohio Global Institute 2010 Now Accepting Applications

Ohio teachers of English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, world languages, career programs or technology in grades K-12 may apply. One hundred teachers will be selected for the institute, with priority given to school teams.

Ohio Named Recipient of Education Commission of the States’ Frank Newman Award

The Education Commission of the States (ECS) announces it will honor the state of Ohio as winner of the 2010 Frank Newman Award for State Innovation. Ohio’s enactment of 2009 H.B. 1 demonstrates the state’s commitment to informed, bold and courageous reform. H.B. 1 overhauls nearly every major component of the education system, from early learning through postsecondary.
