President Scott DiMauro has called this Local Presidents +1 Summit on Saturday, February 1. This meeting is designed specifically for local presidents along with another officer or member leader who has responsibilities for member engagement around political action.
This critical meeting provides time for local leaders to meet with colleagues, OEA officers and staff to discuss major legislative issues affecting our members and the stakes and organizational goals heading into the 2020 election. We will share effective strategies for engaging members around political issues that builds collective power at the local and state level. Additional topics will include the latest on outside organizations (Buckeye Institute, Freedom Foundation, etc.) that are working to undermine labor unions in our post-Janus environment and strategies for effective fundraising for the OEA Fund for Children and Public Education.
Drawing on the best practices of OEA staff and leaders from around the state, local presidents will leave the Summit with critical information and organizing strategies for using legislative and political issues to build local capacity and improve the lives of our members and students.
The Summit will be held at the Marriott Columbus University Area, 3100 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, on the OSU campus, on Saturday, February 1, 2020, from 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. Parking is free. Lunch will be provided. OEA will reimburse for mileage to/from your home to the meeting location. No other expenses will be reimbursed.

Marriott Columbus University Area at 3100 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43202 – is providing a limited amount of courtesy rooms available at the rate of $169 on Friday, January 31. Individuals are responsible for the cost of overnight accommodations; this is a courtesy for those that elect to travel the evening before the event.
