Kick off a great summer with a Read Across America event

On June 3, the Ohio Education Association joined the East Cleveland Education Association, and OEA-Retired, along with many community partners, at Chambers Community Empowerment Center for a huge community celebration, featuring free books, family activities, and snacks and treats. In addition to allowing families to pick out age-appropriate diverse books with their children, the Summer Celebration of Diverse Readers also featured free food, free entertainment from the popular Shaw Band, and free family activities, including facepainting, arts and crafts, a photobooth, and a Reader’s Corner, where local authors and community leaders shared diverse books out loud.

When we read books that have characters of all races, genders, and backgrounds, students discover their own voices and learn from the voices of others. Let’s come together to kick off a great summer by celebrating diverse readers, so we can set all students up for success!
